SAIF Headquarters and Campus

Investing in Salem’s Future

SAIF, Oregon’s not-for-profit workers' compensation insurance provider, sought to revitalize its Salem campus, which featured multiple buildings that limited employee interaction. Initially engaged to design a new office building, Ankrom Moisan was later chosen to lead overall campus planning, enhancing connectivity between buildings and the surrounding community. The primary goal was to create a workplace appealing to multiple generations while accommodating future growth. Our design process involved employee surveys, focus groups, and manager workshops, resulting in comprehensive plans that gained broad support. Central to the design was a 200-year-old heritage oak tree, inspiring our "inside-out, outside-in" approach that integrated landscape, architecture, and interior design. This commitment created a sustainable, light-filled workspace that employees enjoy. The campus’s prime location near parks, bike paths, and downtown Salem informed our improvements to pathways for better access. Protecting the oak tree was essential, and the layout reflects this, with main circulation routes and collaborative spaces centered around the tree and a garden-like courtyard that connects to Pringle Creek and the wider community. SAIF collaborated with the City of Salem and local organizations to develop a campus that anchors the downtown zone while respecting the historical district. Our community outreach addressed local concerns, fostering a welcoming environment. The new community park invites neighbors and SAIF employees to share the space, embodying SAIF's vision as a responsible, forward-thinking organization.
