SAIF Headquarters and Campus

People-first Workspaces

SAIF, Oregon’s not-for-profit workers' compensation insurance provider, sought to transform its Salem campus, which featured multiple buildings that limited employee interaction. Initially hired to design a new office building, Ankrom Moisan was later selected to lead overall campus planning, enhancing connectivity between buildings and the surrounding community. The goal was to create a workplace that appeals to multiple generations while accommodating future growth. Our process included employee surveys, focus groups, and manager workshops to inform space plans and designs that gained broad support. Emphasizing the importance of a 200-year-old heritage oak tree, our design team adopted an "inside-out, outside-in" approach, merging landscape, architecture, and interior design. This resulted in a sustainable, light-filled workspace that employees eagerly embrace. Ricardo Becerril, Owner Representative of SAIF, noted, “It truly feels like our efforts will make Oregon safer by providing a working environment that allows SAIF to better serve their mission.” Rich layers of native greenery around the oak inspired a palette of monochromatic elements accented with vibrant colors. Open spaces with expansive views replaced outdated designs, creating a healthy and inviting environment. Recognizing SAIF's commitment to security and well-being, we integrated intuitive security protocols and textural necessities throughout the interiors. Through comprehensive interviews with SAIF taskforce groups, we engaged stakeholders at every stage, ensuring a seamless transition from the old workspace to the new. The result is a dynamic campus that enhances employee interaction and overall safety.
