Daimler Truck North America

Bringing People Together

Designed from the inside out, Daimler Truck’s new North American headquarters put thought and effort into maximizing views and natural light while enhancing connectivity across departments. The ground floor features a spacious outdoor area, inviting employees to enjoy lunch by the river, even during Portland’s drizzles. A full-size Daimler truck in the lobby celebrates the company’s products, making the space a favored gathering spot. Previously spread across ten buildings on Swan Island, Daimler’s new headquarters is an integrated campus that fosters indoor/outdoor connections—ensuring 90% of interior spaces have views outside—and creates a walkable urban environment with many amenities nearby. The restoration of the adjacent greenway enhances employee access to a waterfront trail. Historical context informed our approach, with significant soil remediation needed due to the site’s past as Portland's original airport. By reconnecting the public greenway along the riverfront, we enhance both beauty and usability, creating an inviting outdoor space for all in a prime location along the Willamette. Our ongoing work across Swan Island will continue to support the company’s evolving needs.
