Casa de las Campanas

A Fresh New Look

When Casa de las Campanas, a 25-year-old Life Planned Community in San Diego, sought to revitalize their aging facility, they turned to us for our expertise in both senior living and hospitality. Our goal was to create a beautiful, functional new core, focusing on enhancing and reusing the existing structure rather than starting from scratch—aligning with our commitment to sustainability. A primary concern for Casa de las Campanas was increasing access to outdoor spaces and fostering wellness in all its forms. By blending the needs of current residents with the desires of future ones, we designed spaces that are not only healthy and restorative but also engaging and future-focused. Our redesign seamlessly integrates the community's existing Spanish Colonial aesthetic with a fresh, modern finish palette. Phase one revitalized the bistro and salon, incorporating rich natural materials, decorative hand-painted tiles, and deep red and gold accents. Skylights were added, drawing in natural light and transforming a previously dark space. New interior lighting, including wrought-iron, candle-inspired pendants, and a backlit onyx feature wall, further brightened the atmosphere. In phase two, we introduced a state-of-the-art wellness building, featuring a fitness center, yoga studio, swimming pool, locker rooms, and massage therapy area. The design for this space continues the theme of light, modern finishes with clean lines and tranquil, inviting spaces, incorporating wood tones, ironwork, and warm whites to complement the Spanish-inspired design elements. Phase three, now under construction, will replace the skilled-nursing building with a new three-story facility focused on private-occupancy units, and phase four will add a five-story expansion with independent living, assisted living, and memory care units. The redesigned Casa de las Campanas is both luxurious and tranquil, blending rejuvenating spaces with a sense of home. By focusing on wellness, interaction, and self-care, the new design attracts future residents while maintaining a welcoming environment for current ones.
