Aegis Living Lake Union

An Aesthetic Celebration of Holistic Wellness

Aegis Living Lake Union, the first assisted living community to meet the rigorous Living Building Challenge 3.1 Petal Certification, offers an extraordinary blend of sustainability, local history, and innovative design. Located in Seattle’s East Lake neighborhood, the community draws inspiration from the area’s rich rowing culture and the iconic University of Washington Olympic Rowing Team. Its architecture, a striking fusion of natural cedar siding, rough brick, and thoughtful landscaping, reflects the rhythm of oars through water and the graceful forms of rowing shells, creating a seamless connection to the environment. The design’s commitment to sustainability and biophilic principles is evident throughout the building. The lobby, with its double-height ceiling and a cascading waterfall, evokes the natural beauty of the boathouse. A suspended Pocock racing shell honors the UW rowing team, while custom patterns in the carpet, lighting, and artwork echo the dynamic flow of water and oars. The building’s exterior features a mural of the historic Olympic team, and inside, another mural pays tribute to each rower, further grounding the community in its legacy. Aegis Living Lake Union’s interiors emphasize nature and wellness at every turn. Expansive windows invite natural light into spaces like the dining room, where residents can enjoy meals together or host private events in the Champions Lounge. The first floor serves as a vibrant hub for social interactions, with a living room adjoining an activity space and the Lake Cinema. On the top floor, the Splash Sky Lounge offers stunning views of Lake Union and the Seattle skyline, providing a peaceful retreat or a lively gathering spot for residents. From the sustainable materials—like wood ceilings and natural slate floors—to the carefully designed spaces, Aegis Living Lake Union celebrates the best of wellness-focused living. It’s a community where residents thrive, surrounded by beauty, comfort, and the enriching connection to both nature and history. This holistic home not only meets the highest standards of environmental stewardship but also fosters a sense of vitality and belonging, allowing seniors to live their best lives in a space that honors their health, well-being, and legacy.
