Holden of Bellevue is part of the city’s shift from a suburban, car-centric landscape to a dense, pedestrian-oriented community. Designed for seniors in need of memory care or assisted living, it offers residents convenient access to downtown amenities, just one block from the upcoming East Main light-rail station. The design integrates seamlessly with Bellevue’s evolving urban fabric, incorporating active street-facing retail and a pedestrian pass-through that enhances the neighborhood’s walkability. Inside, the focus is on community-building, with luxurious, hospitality-inspired amenities encouraging residents to gather for meals, fitness, and social events.
The design prioritizes social interaction. Shared spaces are central, with residential units intentionally kept small to encourage time spent together. Dining plays a key role in this, with separate but connected dining areas for memory care and assisted living. A two-sided gas fireplace and an open kitchen with a pass-through window create distinct but complementary dining experiences. Memory care spaces are equally welcoming, with an intimate kitchen and easy access to a covered courtyard for fresh air year-round.
From the moment you enter Holden, luxury is evident. A soothing water feature greets visitors, followed by a striking glass feature wall in the vestibule. The front desk, with its chevron limestone backdrop and gold accents, sets the tone for the high-end design. Inside, a spacious living room and main lobby, featuring a two-sided onyx fireplace, blend residential warmth with the elegance of a hotel lobby. A richly textured material palette—walnut wood, jewel tones, gold lighting, and organic patterns—creates a calm, inviting environment, with acoustical ceilings enhancing comfort. Wellness is central, with a fitness room and adjoining activity space for large-group sessions.
Color is thoughtfully used to differentiate areas. Light, neutral tones in memory care provide a soothing atmosphere, while the assisted living spaces feature livelier jewel tones. For the public-facing bistro and salon, we embraced a contemporary design with metallic lighting and ample seating, making them inviting to both residents and the community. Holden of Bellevue is a true reflection of its urban setting—luxurious, community-focused, and seamlessly integrated into the city’s fabric.
