Moisan’s latest Pearl District project, The Abigail, is a mixed income project
featuring affordable housing, as well as market-rate apartments. The design
holds 142 housing units ranging from studio to three-bedroom apartments.
Construction will start the beginning of 2014.
at the north end of the Pearl District in an emerging area (near one of our
other affordable housing projects, The Ramona), The Abigail is ideally situated
to provide easy access to family-oriented services, as well as to the shops,
galleries, and restaurants the Pearl District is known for. Featuring retail
and community spaces at ground level, the building will add to the activity of
Abigail is composed of two six-story buildings linked by a transparent bridge,
accessible on every level. Each building takes separate cues from the
surrounding environment in order to generate separate identities. The west
building responds to the urban character of 13th Avenue, while the
less formal character of the railway and river alignments influences the east
layout of the buildings allows for the organic creation of four distinct
outdoor spaces, which present both public and semi-private courtyards. These
courtyards function as places for communal events, relaxation, and play. There
are also oversized corridors and laundry lounges on each floor that serve as
extensions of the community-based design aspect.
